Options

Amtrak Train

There is a train station in Champaign, IL called the Illinois Public Transportation Terminal, only 1 hour from Charleston. The SW staff will provide free transportation to and from the train station and the clinic site.

Burlington Trailways Bus

is a family owned and operated corporation which provides bus transportation services to people and various business entities within the Midwest marketing area and services the Illinois Public Transportation Terminal.

American Airlines

American Airlines services Willard Airport (CMI) in Champaign, IL which is the closest airport to Charleston, IL.  The SW staff will provide free transportation to and from the air terminal in Champaign and the clinic site (about 1 hour trip).  If traveling by air, bring a carry-on bag with items needed for one day of camp, in case your luggage is delayed.  It is possible to investigate cheaper fares through Chicago, IL or Bloomington, IL and combine with Peoria Charter shuttles (see below).

 

Peoria Charter Shuttles

Peoria Charter Shuttle Services: Round/one-way trip shuttle services are available between the Bloomington, IL and Chicago Midway, O’Hare Airports and the Champaign Public Transportation Terminal. Bookings should be made at least one week in advance of travel. Call (800) 448-0572 for possible discount coupons then go to www.peoriacharter.com to book online. The Smith Walbridge staff will provide transportation from the Champaign Public Transportation Terminal to SW Clinics.

TRAVEL

Tips

Search for cheaper airfares to Bloomington, IL (BMI) or Chicago (CHI) then take the Peoria Charter Shuttle to the Champaign Illinois Public Transportation Terminal where SW can pick you up.

EARLY ARRIVALS / LATE DEPARTURES & EXTRA NIGHTS

 

For those participants using public transportation, there are several options to reduce traveling expenses. For early arrivals or late departures, additional nights in the dorms can be requested at a rate of $30 per night (meals not included). NO extra nights are available on the LAST day of all of our clinics (for 2024, that's July 26th). Participants are supervised at all times.  If possible, schedule departure time after 3:00 pm on the final day.

See our information packet for all forms.  Those requesting shuttle assistance must submit their request form at least 5 days in advance of travel, otherwise, the ability to transport you will not be guaranteed.
