About the event

Jesse Backes is the percussion director at Fishers HS. Since graduating from the University of Illinois in 2013, he has been the percussion specialist and battery arranger for Marian Catholic HS (2013-19), the percussion director/arranger at Batavia HS (2013-17), and the director/arranger at Lake Central HS (2017-18). After spending the 2010 season performing with Colts and the 2011-13 seasons with The Cavaliers, he joined the Phantom Regiment percussion staff serving as a battery visual technician, snare technician, and associate percussion caption head from 2014-16. Jesse is now in his 3rd year with The Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps percussion staff where he serves as the battery coordinator. In 2007, he was a founding member of Green Thunder Percussion, a Chicago-area indoor percussion ensemble; Jesse then spent 10 years with GTP / Cavaliers Indoor Percussion, ending his tenure in 2018 as the battery coordinator and music ensemble director. Jesse is a freelance percussion designer, clinician, and adjudicator for high school and college music programs around the midwest, as well as an adjudicator for the Illinois Music Educators Association.
