Dr. Michael Alsop

Dr. Michael Alsop is an Assistant Professor of Music Education and Music Education Concentration Chair at the University of Louisville. He teaches student teaching seminars and survey courses on contemporary music education topics, as well as graduate courses in music psychology and research methods. He was previously Lecturer of Music Education and Athletic Bands at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Dr. Alsop has fifteen years of experience working in the marching arts, including time teaching with Indiana state finalist and champion bands, as well as a BOA finalist marching bands. He has worked on the brass and visual staffs of three world class drum and bugle corps, most recently with Phantom Regiment in 2023. Dr. Alsop holds music education degrees from DePauw University, the University of Louisville, and the University of Georgia. Previously, he was a middle school band director and general music teacher in Brazil, Indiana. This is Dr. Alsop's sixth summer teaching at the Smith Walbridge Section Leader Clinic.
