Marching Band Directors Workshop

This is a grass roots marching band directors workshop covering the basic fundamentals of all aspects of the modern marching band. Several guest clinicians will be featured. Receive optional college credit or CPDU units.

HEAD CLINICIAN
Our head clinician this year will be David Morrison, recently retired director of bands at Prospect High School in Mt. Prospect, Illinois. The Prospect Concert and Marching Bands have won many national and state championships and are regarded as one of the nation’s finest band programs. There will be several guest clinicians giving presentations including Scott Seal who is the marching instructor for the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps. This clinic is open to directors and undergraduate college students..

Jim Bailey: Yamaha clinician
Chris Beason: Director of Bands, Mater Dei HS and professional drill designer
Gary E. Smith: Associate Director of Bands, emeritus, University of Illinois
Ruthann Medworth: DCI Winter guard and head clinician for the Smith Walbridge Flag and Rifle Clinic

DESCRIPTION
• Organization, Administration, Competition and Festivals
• Teaching fundamentals for flags
• Basic teaching techniques for marching percussion
• Rehearsal techniques for marching fundamentals
• Music rehearsal techniques for marching band
• Motivational and leadership concepts
• Basic drill design techniques
• Group psychology
• Directors' discussion group, exchanging ideas and solutions to problems
• Observation and discussion of video tapes of various marching bands

OPTIONAL CREDITS
• 2 Graduate College Credits or
• 30 Continuing Professional Development Units (CPDU)

DATES & RATES
Resident fee includes: Instruction, housing, and all meals
Commuter fee includes: Instruction, lunch, and dinner
Full Time June 26-29, 2007 $ 290 Resident $ 200 Commuter
Discounts: Half price for directors or sponsors sending 10-19 students to any clinic. Free for directors or sponsors sending 20 or more students to any clinic.
OPTIONAL CREDITS choice of one, no discounts
$40.00 6 Continuing Education Units (CEU): 6 CEUs equals 30 Continuing Professional Development Units (CPDU) for full time participants.
$450.00 2 hours graduate credits by EIU for MUS 4980 for full time participants.
