OVERVIEW & TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
“Interactive high energy” best describes the experience at the Smith Walbridge Leadership Workshop. Making friends from across the country and sharing ideas and solutions to problems is a small example of how one benefits from participation. “Leadership” is an ambiguous term that really has no meaning until it is applied in a constructive and productive way. Our nationally famous clinicians are not “book smart,” but they are “street smart” from their own personal success in life. The clinic generates lots of spirit and positive attitudes, but what’s more important is that the students come home with significant knowledge and skills they can actually use in assisting their directors build better bands. In addition, students learn how to transfer what they learned to others. The curriculum is fresh and new every year, making it practical for students to return each year.
