EARLY ARRIVALS / LATE DEPARTURES & EXTRA NIGHTS

For those participants using public transportation, there are several options to reduce traveling expenses. For early arrivals or late departures, additional nights in the dorms can be requested at a rate of $20 per night (meals not included). Participants will be supervised at all times.

If possible, schedule departure time after 1:00 pm on the final day.

 

TRAVEL OPTIONS

Amtrak Train
There is a train station in Mattoon, IL only a few miles from Charleston. The SW staff will provide free transportation to and from the train station and the clinic site which is about 15 minutes travel time.

Burlington Trailways Bus
is a family owned and operated corporation which provides bus transportation services to people and various business entities within the midwest marketing area.

Lincolnland Express Shuttle
Shuttle services to and from Champaign, Chicago O’Hare/Midway and Indianapolis airports and various other pickup locations in those areas. See their website for details. Book at least one week in advance and request student pricing for discounts.

American Airlines
American Airlines services Willard Airport (CMI) in Champaign, IL which is the closest airport to Charleston, IL. If traveling by air, check fares to Champaign first since prices are frequently competitive with Chicago and Indianapolis airports.  The SW staff will provide free transportation to and from the air terminal in Champaign and the clinic site (about 1 hour trip).  If traveling by air bring a carry-on bag with items needed for one day of camp, in case your luggage is delayed.

 

SWC COMPLIMENTARY SHUTTLE ASSISTANCE

SW  will transport participants to and from Mattoon (train) and Champaign (air, train, bus) terminals for those traveling using public transportation.  A SW staff member in a SW shirt and a sign will meet participants at their designated location.  SW IS NOT a licensed chauffeur service.  Our transportation assistance is intended provide free service to help minimize travel expenses costs.   SW is not responsible for delays or cancellations that may occur while traveling.  SW will not be responsible for traveler’s expenses resulting from cancellations, hotels, meals, or bag fees.  SW provides this service for pick up in Mattoon and Champaign only.

Those needing this assistance are required to complete and send us the Public Transportation Form (link below).  Mail/fax/e-mail it to us not less than 5 days in advance of your arrival. 

 

TRAVEL TIPS

Search for cheaper airfares to  Chicago (CHI), Bloomington, IL (BMI) or Indianapolis, IN  (IND) then take the Lincolnland Express to the Champaign Illinois Transportation Terminal where SW can pick you up.  SW will ONLY pick up in Mattoon or Champaign.
