This workshop emphasizes basic and an overview of music technology instruction. It is sponsored and administered by Sibelius and M-Audio. It features a wide range of applications for music educators. This workshop is appropriate for music instruction of all levels and includes applications for Windows and Macintosh. Computers will be provided in a lab.

MIDI 101: The Basics
This session is perfect for the novice. You will learn what hardware and software you need to become productive with music technology. There will be demonstrations of all the types of software available to music educators.
Selecting Courseware Based On Your Teaching Needs: Sibelius Educational Suite
This clinic will cover the rudiments of selecting music courseware based upon instruction type and curriculum content. This practical approach to selecting music courseware will review a wide range of topics that include early musician development, music theory, ear training, composition, assessment, creative thinking and curriculum development.
Teaching Music Fundamentals and Composition with the Sibelius Education Suite
This session will feature instructional courseware and teaching techniques for music instruction at grade levels pre-k through college. Several types of instruction including drill and practice, assessment, and tutorials will be presented. You will learn how to teach your students of all ages to compose music with just released new technologies. Whether you are experienced or new to software instruction, this session will provide you with new an innovative teaching techniques and cutting edge instructional courseware.
Internet Based Music Instruction
You will get a chance to create lessons that can be implemented on the internet using Scorch technology. Delivery of MP3 files will also be explored as well as live webinar training.
Sibelius Hands-On Instruction
While the focus of this 4-day workshop is not a Sibelius Tutorial, there will some sessions providing instruction for beginners through advanced.
Sibelius: Overview of Power, Flexibility, and Ease of Use!
Sibelius includes great features to make life easier for musicians. Some of these features include: worksheet and test production, classroom resources, music performance pedagogy and practicing, video editing, internet technologies, creation of audio CD's and MP 3's right from the program using high-quality sampled built-in sounds, auto arrange, music scanning, and much more. While Sibelius is rich in useful features, the most outstanding trait is that it is easy to use! See how this exciting program can save you time and enhance your music classes.
Strategies for Composition at the Elementary and Middle Level
Successful strategies developed by several teachers from grades 2-8 will be shared for composition at this level. Lesson plans, benchmark examples, and assessments for the lessons will be included on a multimedia CD which will be distributed.
Strategies for Composition at the High School and Middle Level
Successful strategies for working with students in grades 6-12 will be shared. Lesson plans, benchmark examples, and assessments for the lessons will be included on a multimedia CD which will be distributed. (Note: Middle level teachers will get similar material from either session so choose the one most appropriate for you.)
Reflection and Critique: The Vermont MIDI Project (Internet Based Composer Mentor Project)
This session will look at the process developed within the Vermont MIDI Project and share discussions between student composers and professional mentors within the project. Participants will have the opportunity to critique work as well
Hear the students of the Vermont MIDI Project talk about their work in music composition. This nationally acclaimed program is a model for curriculum innovation. Numerous resources for all grade levels will be shared.
