Charleston, Illinois is located about 2 hours West of Indianapolis, 3 hours South of Chicago and 2 ½ hours Northeast of Saint Louis. Michigan people on the West side of the state should consider coming down on Interstate 57 from northern Illinois. Michigan people coming from the East side of the state might consider coming in from Indianapolis (see directions below).
TAYLOR RESIDENCE HALL (2121 S. 4th Street Charleston, IL 61920) is located on east side of 4th Street on the Eastern Illinois University campus. Taylor Hall is a ten floor building located just east of the softball and rugby fields. To enter the Taylor Hall lounge for registration, go through the doors on the northeast corner of the building.
When parking in metered spots, be sure to feed the meters to avoid getting tickets (no charge on Saturday and Sunday). DO NOT PARK IN POSTED LOTS MONDAY-FRIDAY to avoid being towed. Smith Walbridge will not be responsible for anyone who receives a Ticket, or is towed, Resulting from Parking illegally or not feeding the meters.
Students and Staff Driving to Clinics: Students and staff attending the clinic who drive cars should park in the lot immediately south of Stevenson Hall on Grant Street. After parking, students should turn in their car keys to a staff member at the registration table.
Directions to the Taylor Residence Hall When Arriving From the North or the South:
Interstate 57, which runs north and south, is about 8 miles west of Charleston. Exit at the CHARLESTON / MATTOON EXIT #190A (ILLINOIS ROUTE 16, which becomes Lincoln Avenue in Charleston) going east towards Charleston. Go about 8 miles and turn right at 4TH Street, just past an Arby’s. Take 4TH Street south approximately 3 blocks and Taylor Hall is on the east side of the street. Turn left at the drive north of the hall to unload luggage. Then proceed to the parking lot west of the dorm on Fourth Street.
Directions From Indianapolis:
Bypass 465 goes all around Indianapolis. Take Interstate 70 west, which is an exit off of I 465 on the west side of Indianapolis. Go west on I 70 for about 2 hours. Exit at ILLINOIS ROUTE 130 EXIT# 119 and turn right (north). Route 130 becomes 18TH Street in Charleston. Travel north to the intersection of 18TH Street and Illinois Route 16 (Lincoln Ave.) and turn left (west). (There will be a large Ford Dealership on your left at this intersection.) You will take Lincoln Ave. west to 4TH Street (about 12 blocks) and turn left (south) onto 4TH Street (street right after the castle). Take 4TH Street south approximately 3 blocks and Taylor Hall is on the east side of the street. Turn left at the drive north of the hall to unload luggage. Then proceed to the parking lot west of the dorm on Fourth Street.
Motels:
The Worthington Inn (Best Western 217 348-8161) and the Days Inn (217) 345-7689) motels are located on the South side of Lincoln Ave. (Illinois Route 16), West of 4TH Street, near campus. There is a Hampton Inn 217 234-4267, Fairfield Inn (800 228-2800), Super 8 Motel (217 235-8888) and Comfort Suites (217 235-6745) located at the Charleston / Mattoon exit 190B on Interstate 57.
